Planetarium Closed for Renovations
We knew that we would need to replace our digital projectors five years ago. That’s when budget planning started for this major renovation. After a dozen years of daily, all-day use, we are now at the point of replacement or maintenance of our theater’s equipment. What will come will be an amazing, new system designed to fully immerse and engage our visitors about the wonders of the night sky. The digital projectors will be replaced with ones that will provide a greatly enhanced experience. The dome screen above you will be filled with fully saturated colors, a much brighter presence, a much higher resolution image and absolute blacks. Space isn’t gray! Also on the renovation list will be an improvement to our optical ZKP-4 star projector from Carl Zeiss. LED lamps will provide much brighter and more accurate pin-point stars. Other sundry items on our list will be infrastructural needs for the aforementioned work, replacing the seat cushions and covers and replacing some other smaller components. When it is safe for us to open after the renovation, we will do so with an amazing nighttime sky and bright, colorful views of our Cosmos.
