Summer Naturalist Internship

Want to spend your summer at Bays Mountain Park? We’re looking for a naturalist intern! Review the information below, and submit your application by April 19, 2021 for consideration.

Qualifications:
Applicant must be a current student having completed at minimum one full year of college. Major course of study should be in natural history, environmental sciences, wildlife management or related field. Applicant must also have a strong desire to educate others in matters concerning wildlife sciences and environmental issues. Applicants should also be able to lift between 30-50 pounds. An interest in Appalachian history is helpful but not required. Candidates must have an overall C+ average for the last academic year and a B in their academic field. Financial need of
applicants will not be a factor in selecting a recipient of the scholarship.

Definition:
Work 40 hours per week from late May to early August at Bays Mountain Park. Some weekend and evening work included. Intern will assist park naturalists with daily programming and duties specific to the park’s Herpetarium and Farmstead Museum. Intern will be expected to become familiar with local flora and fauna as well as the park’s cultural history. After a reasonable period of orientation, successful candidate must be able to present public programs, carry out daily responsibilities specific to their work area, and work with day camp counselors on camp related activities. No room or board will be provided by Bays Mountain Park or BMPA.
