Event dates for 2009: October 24-25.

The Bays Mountain Astronomy Club hosts this annual event for amateur astronomers in the southeast region of the United States.  There will be lots of interesting presentations and displays, interaction with other amateur astronomers and, of course, night-time observing at the Bays Mountain Observatory grounds.

To register for the event, download and return the registration form with your payment.
The cost of registration includes a unique StarFest T-shirt and lots of delicious meals.

Featured Guest Speaker from 2008

Dr. Martin Hendry
University of Glasgow, Scotland

Dr Martin Hendry is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) of Astronomy and Director of Teaching for the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Glasgow, Scotland. His main research interests are in cosmology and in the exciting new field of gravitational wave astronomy.

In addition to his University research and teaching duties, Martin is a passionate advocate of astronomy outreach to schools and the general public. He regularly gives presentations to schools, science festivals and astronomy societies in the UK, Europe and beyond. In 2005 Martin was awarded the Basler Chair of Excellence for the integration of the Arts and Sciences at ETSU, and gave a series of public lectures in Johnson City on themes ranging from "Einstein's Universe" to "Did we really land on the moon?"

His presentation will be "The Runaway Universe"
A short summary of current cosmology results which seem to indicate that the expansion of the universe is accelerating, and what that might mean for the origin, evolution and eventual fate of the universe.
