K"Where Do I Live?" - A discussion of the homes, habitats & lifestyles of many of our native insects and small mammals using actual nests and models (30 min.)1st "Don't Bug Me!" - Models, freeze-dried specimens, and mounts are utilized to show some of nature's interesting and colorful insects, such as butterflies, beetles, bees, etc. (50 min.) 2nd "Predators" - Video and slides depicting
the diversity of aquatic (shark, killer whale) and terrestrial (wolves,
large cats, raptors) predatory animals, showing food getting strategies
and a brief discussion of where we obtain our food (50 min.)
3rdAmphibians and Reptiles - Slides and video showing some colorful and bizarre frogs, toads, salamanders, turtles, snakes, and alligators. The differences in reptiles and amphibians and also life cycles are discussed. (50 min.)4th"Life on a Coral Reef" - Slides and beautiful video of the Great Barrier Reef depict the most colorful home on Earth and its dynamic inhabitants, from Sea Slugs to Sharks. (50 min.)5th"Tropical Rainforests" - Slides and video showing the composition of rainforests, the insects, birds, reptiles, and mammals inhabiting it, and their destruction due to human incursions and some solutions to these problems.6th"Ring of Fire" - Slide and video discussion of Earth's dynamic surface changing processes of volcanoes and earthquakes due to movement of the tectonic plates. We visit San Francisco, Mt. St. Helens, Japan, and South America to witness some of earth's spectacular volcanoes. (50 min.)7th"Violent Weather" - Slides and video of avalanches, tornadoes, hurricanes, lightning, and flood and their destruction of the landscape and property. Also discussed is safety procedures in bad weather. (50 min.)8th"Venomous Animals" - Models and live examples of insects, spiders, snakes (freeze-dried), centipedes, etc. and a discussion of medical protocols and First Aid. (50 min.) |
