river otter

North American River Otter (Lutra canadensis)

We currently have two male otters. Their names are Kringle, and Snuffy.

The River Otters are probably our most popular exhibit. They seem to love having people around to watch them "play." The Otters are very energetic and curious, spending much of their waking time exploring their habitat and watching people.

The Otters are most active in the afternoons.

River Otters have been reintroduced to several rivers in East Tennessee and seem to be thriving.

Kringle came to us from a rehabilitation facility in Tampa, Florida. He was hit by a car on Christmas Eve, thus his name.

Our newest otter called Snuffy came to us locally from Patrick Henry Lake.  He has adjusted to Kringle and his environment nicely, but he is still very shy around people.
